Before National Nurses Week…
Every year, we pause to recognize the impact of nurses.
And we should.
But this week, I want to introduce a different question before we celebrate:
What is about to change the way nurses work, whether we are ready or not?
Last week I shared current insights on innovation. Read here if you missed it.
I have been advising a AI Healthcare company for about 8 months and I have a lot to share with you in May!! I now have a TEAM of 9 expert nurses working in AI! So proud of this team and their work. I anticipate 10 more hires this year!
I’m on vacation this week but I want your to look ahead to the upcoming series,
Bold at the Frontline of AI: What Nurses Must Understand Before AI Defines the Work
Why? A Not-So-12-hour Shift That Is Already Happening Across healthcare. AI is being integrated into:
Clinical decision support
Documentation and workflows
Patient monitoring and risk prediction
Operational and staffing models
And in most cases, without clear input from the frontline nurses and nurse leaders/educators who would implement AI-enabled technology who understand these systems best.
The AI conversation is not about AI literacy.
It is about who →
understands these systems
questions them and their output
influences how they are used using human expertise and checks/balances
Because if nurses are not part of that process, they will not lead in it.
What AI Means for You and Your Team
You may not be “working in AI.” You may be a general consumer or user of GAI. But AI will influence the environments you work in, your career, and your life.
The real question is how prepared you are to engage with it and eventually lead its success.
