So, bold by association…Special Edition

The conference season buzz is electric!

But the real questions start when the lanyard goes on or, maybe when it comes off.

-> Did that conference/event advance your knowledge and skills?

-> How did the connections you made change your opportunities?

-> Or did you go to have fun!??

As a nurse and leader who’s attended, spoken at, and helped plan national conferences, I have learned that the magic is not usually in any single session.

Instead it may be in the hallway, in chats on the conference app, or in the follow up messages afterward (sometimes years later).

We all have a firsts: A first time conference attendance. A first time job offer! Eventually you become a conference pro!

Conferences Can ✨ Spark Momentum

Attending a conference can absolutely be a catalyst for professional and career growth, if you approach it with purpose. Here’s what these events can do:

  1. Expand your visibility: Meet people who might never otherwise know your name.

  2. Plant career seeds: Discover new roles, ideas, paths, and opportunities you never imagined.

  3. Sharpen your story: Explaining what you do to strangers builds confidence and clarity.

  4. Ignite inspiration: A great speaker or session can stir something inside you that’s been quiet for too long. Use that spark for yourself and take it back to your colleagues and team!

But…

⚠️ Conferences Can Not Do the Work For You

No conference can deliver:

  1. ❌the guarantee of a new job.

  2. ❌a fix for burnout.

  3. ❌a replacement for the internal work you need building authenticity, balance, and confidence.

Attending doesn’t mean that you are advancing or growing unless you take strategic steps to translate what you learn into action.

💭 You Asked: “I really don't know how to choose a good conference to help me in the long run for my career.”

🎯The Bold Nurse Coach says: Most nurses choose events based on cost, CEUs, or location.

Start instead by asking: “Where are people gathering who live (a) at the intersection of what I’m good at and (b) what I want next?” That’s where your future is being shaped.
