Bold in Doing What You Love
Keys to Thriving in Life & Career
Welcome to The Bold Brief—
You are a member of this community of top-notch expert nurses and healthcare professionals who aspire to be “bold” in career and life.
You’re here because you’re not just any nurse or healthcare expert. You are the kind of professional who sees beyond the bedside, who knows that problem-solving is second nature, and who craves more—more autonomy, more impact, more career possibilities.
Each week, The Bold Brief delivers evidence-based success tips to help you take bold action in your career and life. Today, we are sharing a reader’s story of problem-solving and sharing what we’ve learned from you.
The best part? You’re not on this journey alone.
Currently 10,000+ nurses and healthcare professionals are right here with you.
Together we are growing and stepping into new opportunities. We are being bold in life and career choices to live with purpose, and to live with authenticity, balance, and meaningful challenges, driving forward with confidence.
So, bold in doing what you love.

Last week and this week, I wanted to share more personal perspectives from the science of life and career. Last week I talked about my own life-career epiphany. My motivation.
This week, I want to share about doing what you love. And - I have a free download & poll question for you!
There’s a quote I return to often—a simple yet profound mantra that embodies the way I live, lead, and mentor:
“Do what you love, love what you do, and deliver more than you promise.”
This quote is a mindset—one that separates those who survive from those who thrive in their careers and lives. So, let’s break it down. Because if you’ve been feeling stuck, uninspired, or unsure of your next step, this philosophy might just be the spark you need.

Do What You Love: The Power of Passion
We’ve all heard the advice: “Find a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
I strongly disagree. Because no matter how much you love what you do, there will be hard days. Days when you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or questioning everything.
But here’s the difference: When you love your work, you push through the hard days because it matters to you.
I built my career in medical-surgical nursing, leadership, education, medical-device R&D, and research—not because it was easy, but because it lit me up.
And that’s what passion does. Passion fuels:
✔ Creativity – Finding new solutions, making an impact.
✔ Commitment – Staying engaged even when it’s tough.
✔ Persistence – Pushing forward despite challenges.
If you’ve lost your spark, it doesn’t mean you’ve lost your purpose. It just means you might need to redefine what doing what you love looks like.
Love What You Do: Finding Fulfillment in the Work You’ve Chosen
Loving what you do doesn’t mean every moment is perfect. It means embracing:
✔ The challenges.
✔ The growth.
✔ The impact you make.
Finding fulfillment is about shifting from a mindset of obligation ("I have to do this") to a mindset of opportunity ("I get to do this").
For me, this has looked like:
Mentoring the next generation of nurses—because our profession needs strong, empowered leaders.
Advocating for research, education, and policy change—because we don’t just work in the system, we have the power to change it.
Leading with curiosity and excellence—because learning never stops, and neither does the need for innovation in nursing, healthcare, MedTech, medical devices, etc.
So, if you’re feeling disconnected from your career, ask yourself:
👉 What part of your work gives you purpose?
👉 How can you find more meaning in your role?
👉 What would it take for you to love what you do again?
Loving your work is not just finding a job. Loving your work is about shaping your perspective, boundaries, and opportunities to create fulfillment where you are (or in the new path you build for yourself).
Deliver More Than You Promise
This is where good professionals become great. Do not overwork or sacrifice yourself for your job. Instead, be intentional and consistent in showing up, delivering value, and raising the standard.
Excellence is not about perfection. Excellence is about:
Reliability – Being someone others can count on.
Integrity – Doing the right thing, even when it’s unseen.
Going beyond the checklist – Not just meeting expectations but elevating them.
For me, this has meant:
Advancing patient safety, quality improvement, the nursing profession.
Mentoring and coaching nurses into fulfilling, sustainable careers.
Creating The BOLD Nurse Academy, The BOLD Brief, and The Bold Nurse Foundation—to give nurses the tools to reignite their spark and thrive in their life and career for true happiness.
Here’s the truth:
💡 Your career is yours to shape.
💡 Your impact is yours to define.
💡 Your legacy is built by the way you choose to show up—every single day.
The Challenge for You This Week
Reflect on these three principles and ask yourself:
Are you doing what you love? If not, what’s one step you can take toward work that lights you up?
Are you finding fulfillment in what you do? If not, how can you shift your mindset, create boundaries, or seek new opportunities?
Are you delivering more than you promise? If not, how can you raise your standard, set yourself apart, and make a real impact?
Final Thoughts: Your Life, Your Career, Your Power
If you take nothing else from this, take this:
You are not meant to just survive your career.
You are not here to simply go through the motions.
You deserve to thrive—in work, in life, in purpose.
Let this be your reminder.
To do what you love. To love what you do. And to deliver more than you promise—because that’s what sets you apart.
