Welcome to our new advertiser, deel! Don’t miss the poll!

Last week and this week, I wanted to share more personal perspectives from the science of life and career. Last week I talked about my own life-career epiphany. My motivation.

This week, I want to share about actually living what you love. There is a quote I return to often that embodies the way I live, lead, and mentor:

“Do what you love, love what you do, and deliver more than you promise.”

– Harvey Mackay

This quote is a mindset that separates those who survive from those who live with purposeful action in their careers and lives. So, let’s break it down. Because it January 2026 and you’ve been feeling stuck, uninspired, or unsure of your next step, this philosophy might just be the spark you need.

Payroll errors cost more than you think

While many businesses are solving problems at lightspeed, their payroll systems seem to stay stuck in the past. Deel's free Payroll Toolkit shows you what's actually changing in payroll this year, which problems hit first, and how to fix them before they cost you. Because new compliance rules, AI automation, and multi-country remote teams are all colliding at once.

Check out the free Deel Payroll Toolkit today and get a step-by-step roadmap to modernize operations, reduce manual work, and build a payroll strategy that scales with confidence.

Live What You Love: The Power of Passion

We’ve all heard the advice: “Find a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

I strongly disagree. Because no matter how much you love what you do, there will be hard days. Days when you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or questioning everything.

But here’s the difference: When you love your work, you push through the hard days because it matters to you.

I built my career in medical-surgical nursing, leadership, academia, medical-device R&D, and research—not because it was easy, but because it ⚡️ lit me up. ⚡️

And that’s what passion does. Passion fuels your creativity, commitment, and persistence.

✔ With Creativity you will find new solutions, making an impact.

✔ With Commitment you will stay engaged even when it’s tough.

✔ with Persistence you will pushing forward despite challenges.

If you’ve lost your spark, it doesn’t mean you’ve lost your purpose. It just means you might need to redefine what doing what you love looks like.

Love What You Do: Finding Fulfillment in the Work You’ve Chosen

Loving what you do doesn’t mean every moment is perfect. It means embracing challenges, growth, and the impact you make.

Finding fulfillment is about shifting from a mindset of obligation ("I have to do this") to a mindset of opportunity ("I get to do this").

For me, this has looked like:

  • Mentoring the next generation of nurses because our profession needs strong, empowered leaders.

  • Advocating for research, education, and policy change because we don’t just work in the system, we have the power to change it.

  • Leading with curiosity and excellence because learning never stops, and neither does the need for innovation in nursing, healthcare, MedTech, medical devices, etc.

So, if you’re feeling disconnected from your career, ask yourself:

👉 What part of your work gives you purpose?

👉 How can you find more meaning in your role?

👉 What would it take for you to love what you do again and actually live it?

Loving your work is not just finding a job. Loving your work is about shaping your perspective, boundaries, and opportunities to create fulfillment where you are (or in the new path you build for yourself).

Deliver More Than You Promise

This is where good professionals become great. Do not overwork or sacrifice yourself for your job. Instead, be intentional and consistent in showing up, delivering value, and raising the standard.

Excellence is not about perfection. Excellence is about being someone others can count on who shows integrity, and goes beyond the checklist.

For me, this has meant:
  • Advancing patient safety, quality improvement, the nursing profession beyond the beside.

  • Mentoring and coaching nurses into fulfilling, sustainable careers at and beyond the bedside.

  • Creating The BOLD Nurse Academy, The BOLD Brief, and igniting The Bold Nurse Foundation to give expert nurses the tools to ⚡️reignite their spark and thrive in their life and career for true happiness. ⚡️

For you …

💡 Your career is yours to shape.

💡 Your impact is yours to define.

💡 Your legacy is built by the way you choose to show up—every single day.

The Challenge for You This Week

Reflect on these three principles and ask yourself:

  1. Are you doing what you love and actually living it? If not, what’s one step you can take toward work that lights you up?

  2. Are you finding fulfillment in what you do? If not, how can you shift your mindset, create boundaries, or seek new opportunities?

  3. Are you delivering more than you promise? If not, how can you raise your standard, set yourself apart, and make a real impact?

Final Thoughts: Your Life, Your Career, Your Power

If you take nothing else from this, take this:

  • You are not meant to just survive your career.

  • You are not here to simply go through the motions.

  • You deserve to thrive—in work, in life, in purpose.

Let this be your reminder.

To do what you love. To love what you do. And to deliver more than you promise—because that’s what sets you apart.
