You are Resilient

Understanding Your Resilience

Resilience is the ability “to bounce back or recover easily” and to adapt, recover, and maintain momentum when faced with setbacks, high-stress situations, or major career pivots.1 Resilience is a process and not a personality trait; this process helps us to confront adversity, trauma, misfortune, or change.

For expert nurses and healthcare professionals, resilience is a career advantage: It allows you to handle complex situations, make confident decisions under pressure, and embrace new opportunities without losing balance or purpose.

In nursing and healthcare, we need our reliance more than ever to bring desirable change to our lives and profession. Also, resilience can help to overcome it has always been this way mentality in life and career.

“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell and got back up again.”

– Nelson Mandela

The Evidence to Underpinning Your Resilience

Research shows that resilience is a measurable, professional advantage and that resilient healthcare professionals:

  • Are better equipped to lead, innovate, and navigate change.1

  • Experience lower burnout and stress levels.2

  • Deliver more effective, patient-centered care.2

  • Report higher job satisfaction and well-being.3

In both life and career (early, mid, or late), nurses and healthcare professions must learn the processes that result in improved resilience. Ultimately, resilience helps us engage in life with purpose and fulfillment.
