Bold in Sharing - Part 3 The How
Empowering Others, Elevating Yourself
Welcome to The Bold Brief—
You are a member of this community of top-notch expert nurses and healthcare professionals who aspire to be “bold” in career and life. We want to be bold in our life’s purpose, and bold in life and career choices to live with authenticity, balance, and meaningful challenges.
Over the last two weeks, we’ve explored why sharing knowledge matters (Bold in Sharing – Part 1: The Why) and what insights are most valuable to share (Bold in Sharing – Part 2: The What).
Today, we bring it all together with how—the practical (and bold) ways to share with confidence, clarity, and impact.
But before we get into my strategy, let me share a story…

I still remember the moment in the first 5 years in my nursing career when I hesitated to share my knowledge. Years ago, as a nurse in the med-surg PCU, I sat in a nursing practice council meeting with nurses from all departments. The discussion was ongoing—how to reduce reduced number of supratherapeutic aPTTs rates using nonweight-based heparin dosing in our rural hospital.
I had an idea. A simple but evidence-based intervention for weight-based heparin that was used in a large academic system where I previously gained experience while in Texas.
But self-doubt crept in. What if they already knew this? What if it wasn’t relevant? What if they dismissed me?
I nearly stayed silent.
But at that moment, I reminded myself of what I always tell others: If you don’t speak up, you’re guaranteeing that your insights won’t have an impact.
So, I spoke.
That one insight sparked a discussion. That discussion led to a pilot heparin protocol that was eventually adopted hospital wide. The protocol reduced the number of supratherapeutic aPTTs rates so that patients achieved faster therapeutic anticoagulation while reducing frequent phone order requests from providers—saving nursing and provider time!
That single share—just one piece of knowledge—positioned me as a nurse leader at our hospital. It changed how my expertise was valued.
From that moment on, I never underestimated the power of sharing.
What If You Had Never Heard It?
Think back to the last time someone shared something that completely changed your perspective. Maybe it was a mentor’s career advice, a LinkedIn post that made you rethink your perspective, or even a casual conversation with a colleague that sparked a new idea.
Now, imagine that person had decided not to share it. What if you never received that insight? Where would you be today?
This is why and what of sharing. Not just for the person receiving the knowledge—but for the person and power of sharing it. We need the why, what, and how.
So … bold in sharing.
Breaking Through the Barriers to Sharing
🚧Many of us are hesitant to share our insights. We think:
“I don’t have enough experience.” ➡️ Truth: You already have valuable insights. Even small lessons learned can help someone else.
“I’m not sure anyone will care.” ➡️Truth: There’s always someone who needs exactly what you know. Your words could be their turning point.
“I don’t know the best way to share.” ➡️ Truth: There are many ways—low-pressure, high-impact—we’ll explore them today!
Bold in Sharing Series Poll Question Results
The bold in sharing part 1 poll asked about your knowledge sharing motivation: What motivates you to share your knowledge and experiences?
66.67% of participants reported that gaining new perspectives through collaboration were most important. 30% reported that they are motivated by personal growth.
The bold in sharing poll part 2 asked first about knowledge sharing barriers and second about knowledge sharing preference: (1) What holds you back from sharing knowledge or insights at work or online? (2) Where do you feel most comfortable sharing your knowledge and expertise?
For barriers, 25% reported that I don’t think my insights are valuable enough while 25 reported that I worry about how others will perceive my input.
For preferences, 80% reported that they feel most comfortable in one-on-one mentorship conversations
What This (Non-scientific) Evidence Means for Your Work and Life
The poll results confirm that collaboration and mentorship drive the most meaningful knowledge-sharing. Most of you are motivated by gaining new perspectives, demonstrating that sharing is about growing together.
However, self-doubt and fear of judgment remain underlying barriers, showing that creating a supportive environment for sharing is essential. With 80% preferring one-on-one mentorship, it’s clear that personal connections and trust are key to effective knowledge exchange.
The takeaway? Sharing your insights is necessary for growth and leadership for life and career success.
“The boldest leaders are not those who know everything, but those who share freely and lift others.”
