Understanding Your Wants and Needs for Change

Can you differentiate and clearly state your wants and needs as a foundation for change? You've spent countless hours caring for patients, often sacrificing your own needs and well-being. Now, it's time to focus on yourself—on finding a career that aligns with your passions, offers more flexibility, and enhances your personal happiness. Whether it's healthcare consulting, medical writing, device or pharmaceutical education, or a brand new field away from healthcare, there's a world of opportunities where your nursing education and skills are highly valued.

5 Step Guide State Your Need for Change

Step 1: Evaluate Your Life and Current Work Environment

Assess your life and current job as well as their alignment with your personal and professional goals. Identify factors contributing to dissatisfaction and stress. This might involve looking at workload, work-life balance, emotional impacts, and the cultural environment. Now, state your wants and needs about life and work environment.

Step 2: Understand Your Sources of Distress in Life and Work

Identify and document specific sources of dissatisfaction and stress. Consider a variety of factors such as home and personal needs, work’s long hours, emotional toll, lack of recognition, or feeling undervalued (life or work). Reflect on how these sources affect your personal life and overall well-being. This understanding is crucial for identifying what needs to change for you to feel fulfilled and happy. How do your sources of distress affect your stated wants and needs about life and work environment?
