The Real Work of Reinvention

Part 2: Leveraging What You’ve Built

In partnership with

Welcome to The Bold Brief

You are a member of this community of top-notch expert nurses and healthcare professionals who aspire to be “bold” in career and life.

We want to be bold in our life’s purpose, and bold in life and career choices so that we can live with authenticity, balance, and meaningful challenges, driving forward with confidence.

Let’s reinvent together!

One of the biggest myths about career reinvention is that it requires scrapping your identity, credentials, or experience.

False.

Reinvention identifies and uses your existing identity, credentials, or experience as leverage.

You don’t start over.

You start smarter.

Real reinvention begins when you recognize that your clinical work (especially the messy parts) and non-clinical experiences are an assets that sectors and industries outside of traditional nursing desperately need.

This week, I am helping you leverage what you’ve built so far.

Not spin it. Not exaggerate it.

Just frame it through a new lens.

The Career Capital You’re Sitting On

In recent Bold Brief polls

  • 40% of expert nurses and healthcare professionals (like you!) say they “know their strengths but don’t know how to apply them strategically.”

  • Only 10% “feel "confident” that their resume communicates their full value.

This is your untapped capital.

Bold Nurse Academy (BNA) grads often tell me that it was not a lack of qualifications holding them back when the goal was to leave the hospital or bedside.

A report by the National Bureau of Economic Research highlights that industries like MedTech and pharma are increasingly hiring healthcare professionals (like you!), not for their clinical skills alone, but for your leadership, problem-solving, and project management abilities.1

Case in Point: Megan R., RN → Health IT Customer Success Manager, BNA Grad

Megan had 9 years in high-volume case management, quality, and was the team’s technical liaison. She assumed she needed a master’s in informatics to transition to digital health.

Instead, she used BNA’s framework to reframe her background:

Clinical/Traditional

Industry/Non-traditional

Chart audits

Data integrity

EHR feedback →

UX optimization

Discharge planning →

Workflow redesign

She now leads implementation and customer success at a digital health tech startup.

So, no new degree. Just a new pitch.

“I wasn’t underqualified — I was under-representing myself.”

The Reframe Drill

Do the Reframe Drill this week!

Pick one bullet point from your resume. Then, rewrite it three different ways for three non-clinical fields. Read more about potential non-traditional industry roles here. For example:

Original: “Coordinated care for 25 patients in a high-acuity surgical unit”

Possible Reframes:

  • For project management position: “Led cross-functional coordination for 25 high-priority cases per week, ensuring streamlined workflow and safety compliance.”

  • For MedTech: “Executed precision protocols in high-risk surgical cases, identifying gaps for workflow improvement.”

  • For quality improvement: “Identified recurring care delays and piloted 3 QI interventions to reduce patient wait times.”

Don’t know where to start? BNA grade know the formula!
